Tell us a Little about yourself, your family and your business.

I am a woman surrounded by men (and I'm not complaining)! My husband, two sons and I live in Southern California. I design and sell modern and stylish convertible diaper bags.

What did you do before starting Bodomint?

I've done a lot of freelance graphic and accessory design. I've also worked for a few surf companies and currently work full time at Hurley doing product development for t-shirts.

How did you come up with your company name and why?

Coming up with a name was tough for me and held me back for a while. But one day the name Bodomint just popped into my head and felt right. I went with it.

What inspired you to start your own business and how did you start it?

My husband and I were living on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii when our first son was born. We wanted to continue to get outdoors and explore the island with our baby, but needed a multi-functional diaper bag that didn't scream "I HAVE A BABY!". Also, my husband wanted something gender neutral. That's when I knew I had to put my background in accessory design to work to create the perfect diaper bag.

Is there a specific tool you use that makes managing a business easier?

Adobe Illustrator for designing and tech packs. Also, I always try to stay really on top of organizing my emails and filing them away when I'm done with them so my inbox doesn't get too overwhelming.

What Were some of the learning curves of just starting out?

We launched on Kickstarter which was such a fun project, but I learned so much along the way. The biggest was that there will always be a delay in production when developing a new design, no matter how much planning you do. Things just come up! So pad your estimated delivery dates accordingly and always be transparent with your customers.

What's it like being a business owner and mom, how do you schedule both?

Being a business owner, a mom, and working full time has definitely had its challenges. I've been blessed to have a lot of family help, including my very hard working husband and amazing mother who watch my boys while I work. Having a good support group is key and since I have to work, I couldn't ask for anyone better to take loving care of my children.

What has been your greatest lesson in business and motherhood?

You can be a good mom and still follow your career dreams. It might look different than you expected, but you can do it.

Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurial mothers?

If you have dreams of starting a business, don't wait until everything aligns perfectly. You probably don't need a patent or the perfect business plan in place, just take the first step.

Besides business and your family, do you have any hobbies you love to enjoy (when you have the time)?

I love to sing and play guitar.

I can't start my day without coffee. What's that one thing you need every day to kickstart yourself? *

I'm actually a die-hard diet coke fan. Add a little coconut and lime for an extra treat!

Who has been your greatest inspiration to you in your life and why?

My mom and grandma. Both are selfless and love unconditionally. Both had to work to help support their young families. Truly great women.

If you could travel anywhere or do anything in the world what would that be?

I'd love to take my whole family to Europe. My husband has never been and I'd love to see it through the eyes of my two boys. Though they probably will appreciate it more when they're a little older.

If your children learn one thing from you what would you wish that to be?

To be kind and find joy in the journey.

Thank you Rebecca for giving us a little behind the scenes of @Bodomint
