THE MAMAS

Meet Lindsay of Nom Nom Necklace

I always dreamed of being a stay at home mom, and having my own business where I could work from home. My daughter was born in 2013 and after she hit the teething stage in 2014, I launched Nom Nom Necklaces. After a ton of research, sample necklaces, and feedback from friends and family I opened up an Etsy shop and began selling!

Tell us a Little about yourself, your family and your business

Nom Nom Necklaces are stylish teething accessories for mama and baby! All items are handmade in Melbourne, Florida!

What did you do before starting Nom Nom Necklace?

I worked in new home sales for a custom builder. Even though I graduated college with an HR degree, I've been in Real Estate since!

How did you come up with your company name and why?

I wanted something that was recognizable from the name. I felt Nom Nom was a great fit!

What inspired you to start your own business and how did you start it?

I always dreamed of being a stay at home mom, and having my own business where I could work from home. My daughter was born in 2013 and after she hit the teething stage in 2014, I launched Nom Nom Necklaces. After a ton of research, sample necklaces, and feedback from friends and family I opened up an Etsy shop and began selling!

Is there a specific tool you use that makes managing a business easier?

My iPhone calendar and reminder system keep me in check!

What Were some of the learning curves of just starting out? *

I had to work through some redesigns on my packaging and marketing material. I also had to figure out how to build my social media following.

What's it like being a business owner and mom, how do you schedule both?

For me, sometimes it's hard to balance both. I had no idea Nom Nom Necklaces would take off as it did. I thought initially I would maybe do a few sales a week and it has turned into so much more. Most of my work is done in the evening when the kids are asleep. My daughter is three so I try to involve her where I can; she loves going to the post office with me and has become quite the little helper!

What has been your greatest lesson in business and motherhood?

You have to be adaptable. Motherhood is forever changing and so is my business. I've found out that once I figure something out with my children, it changes! My business is forever changing too. My customers are everything to me so I am always seeking their opinion and accepting their feedback on ways to improve and deliver to them what they want.

Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and mothers?

Find something you love doing! I love being a mom and I love being the owner of Nom Nom Necklaces!

What does a β€œnormal” day in your home look like?

We start our day early when our son wakes up at 5:30am. We get the coffee going, breakfast started and then my daughter wakes shortly after. My daughter heads off to school for a couple hours and once she gets home we do lunch. After lunch, I always have an activity planned, wether its a playdate, picnic at the park or simply grocery shopping. From there it's dinner prep and then dinner once my husband gets home. We always play outside before bath time, then it's our nighttime routine and bedtime for the kids! After they are asleep it's grind time! I stay on top of orders so each night I dedicate to processing and packaging!

Besides business and your family, do you have any hobbies you love to enjoy (when you have the time)?

I love DIY projects. We also recently got a pontoon boat which has been a ton of fun for the kids and us to take out and explore. We love the outdoors and going new places, playing in our pool and taking walks together. I've always been into home decorating, which seamingly has taken a backseat to family and business life.

I can't start my day without coffee. What's that one thing you need everyday to kickstart yourself?

I never really loved coffee until my second was born. I enjoy a cup of light roast in the morning and I'm set of the day!

Who has been your greatest inspiration to you in your life and why?

There have been many inspirational people in my life from personal to business. I try to take a piece of what I love about these people and implement them in my life.

If you could travel anywhere or do anything in the world what would that be?

I always said I would never travel to the same place twice, however prior to having kids my husband and I took an amazing trip to South Africa. The safari's were amazing and it's been a dream of mine to go back! I also always wanted to go to the Olympics. We are huge sports fans and I'm glued to the TV during the Olympics!

If your children learn one thing from you what would you wish that to be? *

Be kind, have respect for others and to never give up on what they dream and love.

Any other comments or advice you would like to share?

I'm so blessed to have the best customers. They truly have helped me grow and get to where I am today. Customer service is everything to my business and I always get back to customers as soon as possible. I'm always impatient waiting for my fluff mail to arrive so I get out my orders the same day, or next day if its the weekend so my customers don't have to wait too long! Happy mama, happy baby! :)
