THE MAMAS

Meet Sandra of Hooray Littles

That they can do anything if they are willing to put in the work. I also hope they learn to always be kind.

Tell us a Little about yourself, your family and your business.

My family and I are born and raised in CA. We lived in San Diego, CA. for about 5 years, but just recently moved to North Salt Lake, UT. I have 3 children and the most amazing husband! My second child loved being swaddled and absolutely hated being in his car seat because he couldn't be swaddled. I created the muslin carseat swaddle to fit that need. It was a lifesaver for us!

What did you do before starting Hooray Littles?

I was a high school Spanish teacher for a few years before I became a mommy. Then my mommy venture led me to start my little company to fulfill a need I saw in the market and lives of moms and babies.

How did you come up with your company name and why?

I have a blog called Hooray Designs. So Hooray Littles was a spin off of that. It is a name that promotes celebrating and loving the little ones that bring so much joy. But also, I just wanted to find a name that can cover a variety of products for little ones as our company grows.

What inspired you to start your own business and how did you start it?

It was a combination of needing an outlet of my own, like my own little project to work on. Also, people would ask me where I got my swaddle and I started making them and selling them. This is how I noticed that there are many mother's and babies that had the same problem I had with not being able to swaddle our little ones in the stroller or car seat.

Is there a specific tool you use that makes managing a business easier?

I use Instagram to spread the word because it's easy and convenient and can reach a lot of people. I also use Photoshop and Illustrator to make graphics and bring a more professional look to the business.

What Were some of the learning curves of just starting out?

Well, there is so much to learn and I feel like a big sponge trying to soak in as much as I can every day. I would say that the financial side has been so interesting. Trying to manage money for products and marketing etc. But I also think that learning to manage working on my business along with being a mom has been my biggest challenge.

What's it like being a business owner and mom, how do you schedule both?

I was doing really well doing the mom thing by day and then the business thing after I put them to bed. But when baby number 3 came into the mix I found myself having less time. And when I do have time being too tired to do anything. So I'm still trying to get my barrings and trying to remember why I started the company and why I love having my own little "project".

What has been your greatest lesson in business and motherhood? *

The whole concept of "Knock and you shall receive". I have been so amazed at how much others want to help and will root for you if you just ask or give them the chance. I've had to learn to reach out to others more experienced than me, or other companies and more often than not, they are willing to help or work with you. So awesome!

Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

I would say to network and ask other companies and other similar entrepreneurs for advice and offer your help as well. You both can really help each other.

What does a β€œnormal” day in your home look like?

Waking up to make breakfast, getting kids off to school, try to get some chores done and hang out with the baby, Check emails and fulfill orders while baby naps, pick up kids from school, work on dinner while the kids play or do homework, Baths, read books and get kids in bed. Catch up with the hubs. Then lastly fulfill any more orders and/or work on marketing strategies. That's about it in a nutshell.

Besides business and your family, do you have any hobbies you love to enjoy (when you have the time)?

I love being creative and crafty in any way really. I am a lover of art! I also love to play with my kids and teaching my kids to be and use their creativity.

I can't start my day without coffee. What's that one thing you need every day to kickstart yourself?

I don't drink coffee. But I love Hot Chocolate and I also love smoothies! Jamba Juice is my go to place. My favorite flavor is Aloha Pineapple. I also love acai bowls from Bowl of Heaven, but I don't live by one anymore.

Who has been your greatest inspiration to you in your life and why?

My mother for sure. She has always been so hardworking, generous and dedicated to her children. I truly believe in all of those qualities and know it has made all of the difference in my life.

If you could travel anywhere or do anything in the world what would that be?

I have always wanted to go to Europe. Especially those places you learn about in Art History; Italy, France, England, Spain.

If your children learn one thing from you what would you wish that to be?

That they can do anything if they are willing to put in the work. I also hope they learn to always be kind.

Here's a short video of how the product works.
